Coaches Corner Issue 1
Posted on 19, December 2013
We are introducing an item called Coaches Corner and hope that you will find it to your benefit. The topic is about training specifics. We train to a system to suit our needs and sport. Explanations will be as user friendly as possible.
In modern swimming set-up we use 6 different types, primarily to cover all distances and types of individual. They are
- Endurance 1
- Endurance 2
- Endurance 3
- Sprint 1
- Sprint 2
- Sprint 3
Obviously all this is relative to the amount of time you can spend in training. The above is all about the intensity of the swim i.e. one can swim at certain intensities for a long time and others for a shorter time.
Starting this article with Endurance 1 which is just above warm up pace. You can cover as much mileage as you like in this zone. Putting each system in a zone, heart rate is low – 60/70% of max effort. Its mainly used for stroke drills, kick drills & technique. It can also be used for recovery sets after hard swims.
In the next issue we will focus on Endurance 2 and how to set-up a basic training set.
If you wish to discuss any of the above contact me at the pool side, rather than email.
Always accelerate through your stroke i.e. after catch phase start slow finish fast.
Remember Keep Streamlined
