A marathon endurance, we were queuing for spectating queuing for swimming queuing for your warm up frustration and elation what an experience. This was all part of our trip to the European Championships. In the magnificent Olympic pool in Stratford London up to 1400 swimmers took part in the championships which also included synchronised swimming and diving. 135 swimmers travelled to represent Ireland in the gala.  Representing Limerick Masters were the following, Ladies  Andrea Newport; Elif Shanahan; Edmeia Khan; Meabh Scanlon;  Jean Ann Cunningham; Marion Purcell; Jean Sparling;  Rosie Foley; Lorraine Richardson. Limerick Masters Swimming Club is a competitive club with a passion for swimming, healthy lifestyle, quality coaching in an enjoyable environment and a top class pool. In March each year we host the Irish Open Long Course Championship Gala at the 50m Arena pool in UL. Over the Summer we run the annual Thomond Open Water Swim in the heart of Limerick City. Records Galore British Masters

Congratulations to John Cunningham who swimming under the Limerick Masters banner competed in the recent British Masters Longcourse Gala at the Aquatics Centre in Manchester. This was John’s first competition in 3 years, he was recovering from multiple injuries  including shoulder, knee, and double hernia surgery!! John achieved a European Record in the 50m Fly with an astonishing time of 26.09. He broke 5 Irish Records: 50 Fly – 26.09;  100 Fly – 1:00.30; 50 Breast – 31.28;  50 Free – 25.46;  100 Free – 57.65 Hopefully the injuries are now put to bed and we hope to see John & his swimmers [&hellip

This years Thomond Swim takes place on Saturday 25th July 12:45. The swim will follow the usual 1800m swim route starting at the slip beside St. Michaels rowing club, to Thomond Bridge and back again. Congratulations Breda McNamara

On Saturday May 9th at the Swim Ireland AGM and Awards night the Swim Ireland Masters Award for Outstanding Achievement was awarded to Breda McNamara of Limerick Masters. The award is a recognition of Breda’s long years of service to masters swimming in the mid west from the foundation of Limerick Masters club 28 years ago to the club today which has in excess of 90 members. Irish Open Long Course Championships – The Results

There was a great weekend of swimming at the Irish Open Long Course Masters Championship Gala on the 6th and 7th of March. In excess of 330 swimmers gathered in the UL arena over the weekend to partake in the event. Swimming commenced on Friday evening with 51 competitors in the 1500m freestyle. Norma Cahill from Ennis masters gave an outstanding performance to set a new European record at the 1500m distance and also at the 800m distance and in so doing won the Kearney 1500m trophy.
