Martin Duggan Memorial Swim/open water club news
On Friday 6th June the Limerick Masters Open Water road trips began with a short jaunt to Fermoy Co. Cork.

7 members headed off into the mist with what we hoped was not going to be a regular feature on our future road trips…rain! Most of us were happy to settle for a lift in Tommys comfortable temperature controlled vehicle! Thanks again Tommy!

The swim was run by Owen O’Keefe with the support of Fermoy rowing Club & the Blackwater Search & recovery Unit.

55 swimmers took part in the swim with 2 waves starting from the slip before the weir and swimming 1km upstream against the current and 1km back to the slip. The Limerick crew had the thrill of starting together in the second wave and despite the initial freshness of the water we all got well warmed up as we tackled the current. As in most swims you see the turning buoy and drive on but in Fermoy it’s deceiving as the river narrows at that point and so the battle with nature begins….but once it ends and of course our 7 hardy swimmers did that we cruised back to our landing spot where a HOT shower awaited along with the best tasting sandwiches & cake ever!!
