Veni, vidi, vici. On a beautiful day in the centre of Limerick City the Thomond Swim took place. As with recent Thomond swims the main prizes went to clubs from outside the city with Dublin clubs taking the laurels this year. The boardwalk along the full extent of the 1800m course afforded the spectators an excellent viewing platform. Growing local interest in the event was reflected in the largest [&hellip

A good crowd 11 off swimmers assembled at Worrells End, Castleconnell. This week was a first time swim for Philip Brady, Brian Murray and Rebecca Austin. The weather was perfect and the water warmer compared with the week before. To swimmers like John Ryan, this does not present a problem as they have been taking regular dips at Castleconnell since April. The swim took the now well worn route, up the right, keeping close to the reeds to avoid the boats, past the bend and upto the first tree line, a total of 900m. We were joined by a group [&hellip

Just one week later and the water had warmed up considerably! Three masters club members took full advantage of the blue skies to travel to Glengarriff and participate in the Gaddin AbtGarnish 2014 swim. It is an ideal swim event for newcomers to OW swimming, as the island is in a very secluded spot and the organiser Ossi Schmidt promotes the event as a swim, rather than a competition. Three distances were held: 1km, 3km, 5km. Kevin braved up for the 5km while Linda and Diarmuid completed the 3km. Well done all.

On Sunday June 8th a group of 20 swimmers took to the water in Limerick City Centre in support of the Pat Lawless Sail and Oar Festival. The swim took place from St Michael’s slipway to Sarsfield Bridge and back to St Michaels. The swim was coordinated with the rowing regatta between Sarsfield and Shannon Bridges and sailing events between Sarsfield and Thomond Bridges. The weather was very “polite” and a good day was had by everyone and it really demonstrated the amenity value of the river in Limerick. Events of this kind should be run more regularly during the [&hellip

On Friday 6th June the Limerick Masters Open Water road trips began with a short jaunt to Fermoy Co. Cork. 7 members headed off into the mist with what we hoped was not going to be a regular feature on our future road trips…rain! Most of us were happy to settle for a lift in Tommys comfortable temperature controlled vehicle! Thanks again Tommy! The swim was run by Owen O’Keefe with the support of Fermoy rowing Club & the Blackwater Search & recovery Unit. 55 swimmers took part in the swim with 2 waves starting from the slip before the [&hellip
