As part of our gala , every year we award 7 trophies. The first 3 trophies are calculated based on the swimmer with the time closest to their World Age Record for that event
Kearney Cup for the 1500m free – Norma Cahill from Ennis Masters SC with a time of 19:59.63. This was 103% of the World Record, but a new European record. Norma had fantastic swims as she also broke the European 800m record during that swim with a time of 10:33.03.
Then she broke the 800m European record again on Saturday with a time of 10:29.42 and broke the 400m European record during that swim with a time of 5:11.34
Limerick Master Cup for the 50 Free – John Cunnigham from Aer Lingus with a time of 27.19. This was 107% of the age group record. Deirdre Morris, also from Aer Lingus was a close second on 108% with a time of 30.56.
Jim Neylon Trophy for the 50 Breaststroke – Barry Murphy from Guinness SC with a time of 28.57This time set a NEW 40-44 Age Group World Record, breaking the previous record of 28.84 which stood since 2009.
Congratulations to Barry, John and Norma on their absolutely amazing swims.
The next 3 trophies are individual awards based on points, with a swimmer’s best 4 results counting. In the event of ties, the next criteria is age.
Best Female Swimmer – Claire O’Dwyer from Aer Lingus
Best Male Swimmer – Jeff Philips from Aer Lingus
Best Overseas Swimmer – Brian McShea from East Anglian Swallows
The final trophy is Best Visiting Club. This was won by Aer Lingus with a total team score of 2187. Second were NAC Masters on 903.5Kilkenny Masters were a close 3rd on 884, just pipping Cork Masters on 880.5
