A team of thirteen swimmers left Limerick by coach at 6.45 on Sunday morning to travel to the Celtic Masters Gala at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin. The gala is run by the combined NAC Masters and Aer Lingus Masters Swimming Clubs on a short course within the 50m pool complex. All were in high spirits and fighting form and under the inspiration of coach John Dempsey we collected 36 individual medals and four relay event medals during the course of the day. John Dempsey was awarded swimmer of the gala as he won a total of six medals and having moved into an even more “mature” age group was heard to say that there was no “live” opposition left! Some of our friends from the Potters Bar Swimming Club in London were also competing at the gala and are looking forward to returning to the Limerick gala in March. All retired to the Bell bar in Blanchardstown for the après swim and prize giving followed by a raucous sing song all the way back to Limerick ably led by Edel Farrell, Maria Ryan and the one and only John Dempsey.
