Congratulations Breda McNamara

On Saturday May 9th at the Swim Ireland AGM and Awards night the Swim Ireland Masters Award for Outstanding Achievement was awarded to Breda McNamara of Limerick Masters. The award is a recognition of Breda’s long years of service to masters swimming in the mid west from the foundation of Limerick Masters club 28 years ago to the club today which has in excess of 90 members. For all of that time Breda has served as secretary of the club and has been instrumental in the development of masters swimming in Limerick, has supported swimming at all levels in the region [&hellip

Irish Open Long Course Championships – The Results

There was a great weekend of swimming at the Irish Open Long Course Masters Championship Gala on the 6th and 7th of March. In excess of 330 swimmers gathered in the UL arena over the weekend to partake in the event. Swimming commenced on Friday evening with 51 competitors in the 1500m freestyle. Norma Cahill from Ennis masters gave an outstanding performance to set a new European record at the 1500m distance and also at the 800m distance and in so doing won the Kearney 1500m trophy. Well done to Rosie Foley who was awarded the Open Water Performance of the Year by ILDSA for her swim down Lough Derg her Solo English Channel crossing last year. Jim Neylon – A Tribute

Jim Neylon RIP passed away on the 19th January 2015 (Age 81 years) Jim Neylon made a tremendous contribution to Limerick Swimming.  Famous for his enthusiasm and humour, Jim was a corner stone/patriarch of Limerick Swimming. Jim was active in all areas of Swimming since the 70’s.  He began in Seal Swimming Club as a Teacher and then became Chairperson and PRO, positions he retained for more than 25 years during which time it grew from a small Club into one of the largest in the country with lessons being run in every pool in the city.  In his role [&hellip

Both Fionnuala Walsh & Rosie Foley have been nominated in categories for this years Irish Long Distance Association Awards. As many of you know 2014 saw Fionnuala become the First Irish Female to complete the Triple Crown in open water swimming – (English Channel, Catalina Channel & Manhattan Island) and shortly after Rosie took off down the length of Lough Derg and while we were racing up the Shannon for the Thomond Swim she crossed the English Channel. Christmas Day Swim 2014

A great crowd turned up to support and swim in the annual Christmas Day swim. As the starting pontoon dipped closer to the “fresh” river water it was too late to turn back….After a large splash, some light elbowing and rebalancing of Santa hats Ger Storan emerged as the victorious winner of the Mens trophy. Ciara Murphy having just completed the annual Christmas Day run took the ladies trophy. Mallow Masters Defending the Title

A hoard of 32 swimmers descended on Mallow early on Saturday morning determined to retain our title as the Club of the Gala at the annual Mallow Masters Swimming Gala. After a gentle warm up it was down to the serious business of racing. It was clear from an early stage that Limerick were in pole position for another win.
