Results from Mallow Masters

Congrats to all the Limerick swimmers who took part in the Mallow Master gala recently. Total medal count: 26 Gold, 31 Silver, 17 Bronze in individual events. 8 Gold, 20 Silver, 4 Bronze in relay events. Total record count: 1 Irish Record, 14 Munster Records subject to ratification. Limerick also retained the Overall Best Performing Club trophy with a great team effort from both men and women. Mallow the real story

Ho ho ho and so to Mallow we went, all packed in, 18 of us in a 12 seater single decker and oh what fun it was on the Bus na nÓg to Mallow town! First of all fair play to the seriously sound Corkonians who rolled out the red carpet to welcome us to their town. The gala was great not to mention the amazing grub. Wednesday morning swim session – continues into 2014

The Wednesday morning swims will continue in 2014.  In case you didn’t know the Club swims 7 – 8 am on Wednesdays in Grove Island.  The cost is currently subsidised by the club so it’s a bargain at €30 for 12 weeks!!  Sessions are coached by John Dempsey.  There are limited spaces available so if you are interested please give your name to Breda Mcnamara

What a day – what a swim – air temperature 31 – water temperature 25 – 72 swimmers. The Thomond Swim was, by common consent, a most enjoyable swim and with the low volume of water in the Shannon times were fast.  The river was alive with swimmers and boats, 15no. for the event. With the boardwalk along the riverbank spectators were able to follow the swim at their ease. The race started and finished this year in St. Michael’s Rowing Club. Thomond Swim (Thomond is the Gaelic for North Munster) The Thomond Swim starts from the slipway at St Michael’s Boat Club on the north shore of the river Shannon and then the route takes the swimmers along by O’Callaghan Strand under Sarsfield Bridge along by the side of Clancy Strand past the Old Barracks (O’Callaghan and Clancy were two former Mayors of Limerick who were executed by the Black and Tans during the War of Independence).
