On Friday 6th June the Limerick Masters Open Water road trips began with a short jaunt to Fermoy Co. Cork. 7 members headed off into the mist with what we hoped was not going to be a regular feature on our future road trips…rain! Most of us were happy to settle for a lift in Tommys comfortable temperature controlled vehicle! Thanks again Tommy! Presentation to Limerick Swimming Club: Limerick Masters have a long standing relationship with Limerick Swimming Club, the principal competitive club for young swimmers in Limerick city. Many outstanding swimmers have started out their competitive career in LSC and Limerick Masters are delighted to be able to contribute to the development of the sport in Limerick and the mid west through their support of LSC. Hi all, As we are now approaching those long balmy summer days we are starting the open water swimming season. Reports from the early starters tell us that conditions in the river Shannon are very comfortable! – whatever that means. Some members of the Limerick Masters Committee & Club attended the Swim Ireland AGM which were held on Saturday last 12th April in Limerick. There was a very big turnout from other Swim Ireland members from various Clubs representing not just Masters but other aquatic disciplines such as Children’s swimming, WaterPolo, Diving & Open Water. A great day’s swimming was had by the two dedicated swimmers who traveled to Tralee for the Kingdom Masters gala on April 5th. In her three races Maria Ryan set three PBs. Paddy Healy was delighted to report that his big achievement was not getting disqualified in any event by the notorious (nuttorious?) white-suited twins. Maria’s big complaint was the poor mileage she got on the way home from the added weight of free lunch and medals. The results can be found here Well done Maria and Paddy

The 13th Limerick Masters gala took place on the 1st and 2nd of March and was again a huge success. Almost 340 competitors took part in the gala and came from all parts of the Ireland, the UK with one competitor from Switzerland and one from Russia. In all there were 50 clubs represented and in excess of 1200 dips. The oldest swimmer to participate was the veteran Vincent Cassidy from Cork Masters at only 80 years of age!
